The Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Jays completed a 10-player trade Friday morning that may allow Toronto to rebound from its recent struggles and stay in contention for a playoff spot, according to multiple reports.

The Blue Jays receive reliever Brandon Lyon, starting pitcher J.A. Happ and reliever David Carpenter from Houston. Lyon has a 3.25 ERA in 37 appearances this season, while Happ is 7-9 with a 4.83 ERA this year.

Houston receives seven players in the trade, including four minor leaguers and a player to be named later. Struggling reliever Francisco Cordero, a former All-Star who has a 5.77 ERA this season, and outfielder Ben Francisco are the two major leaguers headed to the Astros. Carlos Perez, Asher Wojciechowski, David Rollins and Joseph Musgrove are the minor leaguers involved in the deal.

Toronto is only 3-7 in its last 10 games and sits in last place in the AL East at 45-47. But the Blue Jays are only three games back of the second-place Orioles and well within reach of a wild card spot.

Houston has a league-worst 34-59 record this season.
