J.P. Arencibia injury: Blue Jays catcher to miss six weeks with fractured hand

Toronto Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia took a foul ball off his right hand in the top of the second inning of Wednesday's game against the Oakland A's, and the official word from the team is not good:

To add insult to injury, the Jays were behind the A's 9-0 after two.

After a breakout 2011 (23 home runs, 78 RBIs in 129 games), Arencibia was on track to better those numbers, hitting .242 with 16 HRs and 50 RBIs in 80 games.

With Jeff Mathis presumably assuming the No. 1 catcher duties, the Jays will lose offense but still have a good game-caller and defensive backstop in the lineup.
