Report: Clemson WR Sammy Watkins suspended for first two games of 2012

Roy Philpott of CUTigers.com reports that Clemson sophomore wide receiver Sammy Watkins, arguably the team's most dynamic offensive player, will be suspended for the first two games of the 2012 season as punishment for his May arrest on drug charges.

Philpott writes that a formal announcement is expected to come on Friday night after the school's Board of Trustees signs off.

The Tigers open the season against Auburn in Atlanta and then host Ball State in Week 2.

Watkins led Clemson as a true freshman with 82 receptions for 1,219 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was named the preseason ACC Player of the Year.

UPDATE: The school has confirmed the suspension, according to Travis Sawchik of the Charleston Post & Courier.
