Ryan Mathews injury: Chargers running back out with broken right clavicle

San Diego Chargers fans thought this might the season in which running back Ryan Mathews finally lived up to the hype of being selected 12th overall in the 2010 draft. But if Mathews is to do so, he will have to play catch-up.

Mathews left Thursday's preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers after his only carry, and the news after the game was not good, according to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune:

With Mathews likely out for at least the first two weeks of the regular season, the Chargers will have to turn to Ronnie Brown to give Philip Rivers a running game.
