Report: Florida State DE Brandon Jenkins out for season with foot injury

A source tells Bruce Feldman of CBSSports.com that Florida State defensive end Brandon Jenkins will miss the rest of the season with a left foot injury.

Feldman writes:

Jenkins is believed to have suffered a Lisfranc injury between the second and third metatarsal bones of his foot. According to a source, two or three screws will be inserted to promote healing.

Jenkins, a 6'3", 260-pound senior who was first-team All-ACC as a sophomore and second-team last season, hurt the appendage in the first half of the Seminoles' 69-3 win over Murray State. He could take a redshirt year and return in 2013, but he was projected as a high NFL pick (he's No. 19 in the first 2013 mock draft of SI.com's Andrew Perloff) and could opt to turn pro.

Jenkins had 21.5 sacks the past two seasons and headlines a deep group at the position, which should make up for his absence. The opposite starter is junior Bjoern Werner, who had four sacks on Saturday. Former juco transfer Tank Carradine replaced Jenkins in the lineup last week and figures to be the new right end.

FSU also has four-star redshirt freshman Giorgio Newberry and five-star true freshman Mario Edwards at the position.
