The St. Louis Rams and middle linebacker James Laurinaitis agreed to a five-year contract extension worth $41.5 million with $23.5 million guaranteed, the team announced Saturday.

Laurinaitis, a second round selection of the 2009 NFL draft, will be under contract through the 2o17 season. Laurinaitis has started all 16 games in all three of his seasons with the Rams. Laurinaitis had 142 tackles and two interceptions last season.
