Max Scherzer injury: Tigers RHP leaves game with shoulder fatigue
Detroit Tigers righthander Max Scherzer left Tuesday's game against the Oakland A's after just two innings with what the team announced as shoulder fatigue in his throwing arm. The Tigers also said that Scherzer would undergo an MRI.
Matt Snyder of CBSSports.com said that Scherzer's velocity was "noticeably down" on the last few pitches he threw before taking himself out. He was replaced by Darin Downs, but lefthander Drew Smyly would probably take Scherzer's spot in the rotation if Scherzer has to be shut down.
Scherzer has emerged as Detroit's No. 2 starter, behind Justin Verlander, going 16-6 with a 3.78 ERA and an impressive 228 strikeouts in 180 2/3 innings.
UPDATE: That was fast. Scherzer's MRI results are already in, according to John Lowe of the Detroit Free Press:https://twitter.com/freeptigers/status/248239146143973376
