Pats tight end Kellen Winslow requested to be released, and the team acquiesced according to ESPN's Adam Schefter who broke the news via Twitter:

https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/251378700615032833 Winslow signed a one-year contract with New England on Sept. 19, three days after Aaron Hernandez suffered a right ankle sprain in the team's 20-18 loss to the Cardinals during Week 2. He had one reception for 12 yards as Hernandez's replacement in Sunday's 31-30 loss to the Ravens on Sunday. Winslow, 29, was the 6th overall draft pick by the Browns in 2004 and is entering his eighth season in the league.
