Arizona Cardinals running back Ryan Williams is out for the season with a shoulder injury, Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt announced Monday.

Williams missed all of his 2011 rookie season with a torn patella tendon and will need surgery on his shoulder.

Williams, a second round pick in the 2011 draft out of Virginia Tech, only averaged 2.8 yards a carry in three starts this season.
