Even though the Big East Conference wants Navy to join their conference earlier than the agreed year of 2015, Navy's athletic director said that is not going to happen.
"There's a laundry list of reasons why we can't join in 2013 or 2014, and none of those objectives have changed," Chet Gladchuk told ESPN. "That's why we determined 2015. "What makes sense for us remains 2015. As it stands today we're still focused on (joining in) 2015."
Gladchuk said Navy can't join the Big East any earlier than 2015 because of games scheduled through 2018, bowl contracts through 2017 and television contracts with CBS College Sports. CBS also will televise the Army-Navy game through 2018. Navy will be a football-only member.
Big East will lose Syracuse and Pittsburgh to the Atlantic Coast Conference but adds full members Houston, SMU, UCF, and Memphis and football-only members Boise State and San Diego State. The Big East will have a 12-member football conference next season.
