The NBA announced a plan to build a sports and entertainment complex near Beijing, China.

From The New York Times:

The N.B.A. Center — a basketball extravaganza that will include a gym and an N.B.A.-themed cafe, a restaurant and a store as well as an interactive gaming area and a children’s zone — will be placed at the center of a $1.5 billion, 800-hectare, or 2,000-acre, property development being built by a Chinese company.

The N.B.A. declined to say how much it was investing in the center but said it would be the first of several it planned to set up throughout China.

The NBA already enjoys the biggest American professional sports presence in China, the league's second-largest market outside the U.S., generating more than $100 million in 2011 revenues. The NBA complex will be designed to support the estimated 300 million people who play basketball in China, as well as, boost marketing and sponsorship deals.

The announcement was made as part of the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Clippers exhibition tour of China.
