Cooley is scheduled to undergo a physical Monday and his signing will become official after that, barring any unexpected last-minute snags.

The signing of Cooley, a former Redskin who was released in August, was a necessary and logical step for the team after it lost tight end Fred Davis for the season Sunday to a torn Achilles tendon.
Cooley had been working out for other teams, but wasn't in a hurry to get back to playing if it wasn't a good situation. The 28-year-old Cooley is the Redskins' franchise leader in receptions by a tight end. As recently as two seasons ago, he caught 77 passes for 849 yards and three touchdowns. He had 428 catches for 4703 yards and 33 touchdowns during his first eight years with the team.
