White Sox may shop starting pitcher for third baseman

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn told CSN Chicago the team may trade one of its starting pitchers in the offseason, possibly in a package for a third baseman.

The White Sox are deep in starting pitchers after the team kept Jake Peavy and Gavid Floyd last week. John Danks is scheduled to be ready for spring training following shoulder surgery in August. Hahn believes the team could fill out a rotation with the likes of Simon Castro, Jose Quintana, Nestor Molina, Chris Sale or Hector Santiago.

“It’s absolutely conceivable,” Hahn said. “Nothing is set in stone in terms of, ‘Here’s our starting five. Here’s our back end of the rotation’ and this guy’s here. We will absolutely listen on any ideas and trades will be one of the avenues we pursue to potentially fill some of our holes.”

Floyd appears to be a logical pitcher to shop after going 12-11 with a 4.29 ERA and a year left at $9.5 million.

“I suspect given this market for pitchers that is out there right now, I think we’re going to hear from a lot of teams about our starting pitching depth,” Hahn said. “I think we’re going to be pretty popular in that regard vis-a-vis trades because we’re in a better position than a lot of clubs right now.”
