Robert Nkemdiche, No. 1 football prospect, decommits from Clemson

Robert Nkemdiche, widely regarded as the No. 1 high school football prospect, has reportedly decommited from Clemson University, according to a report Thursday from Will Hammock of The Gwinnett Daily Post.

His current high school coach, Mickey Conn, said Nkemdiche, a 6-foot-5, 270-pound defensive lineman, is still interested in Clemson but is no longer committed to play at the school:

"I think he's still very interested in Clemson, but he's got a brother (Denzel) who goes to Ole Miss and he's got other schools that he likes as well. He's going to clear his mind and take some other visits."

Nkemdiche chose to play for the Clemson Tigers this past summer but he reportedly still entertained recruiting efforts from other schools. Among the other schools he is considering in addition to Clemson and The University of Mississippi are Alabama, LSU, Florida and Oregon. Conn said his family will play a role in helping him decide:

"At this point, I think it's a family decision. The family's going to get together and make the best decision for Robert."

Conn said he expects Nkemdiche to take his time now with making the decision and likely won't confirm where he will play until National Signing Day, Feb. 6. Teammates Wayne Gallman and David Kamara have already committed to Clemson.  His former teammate, quarterback Nick Schuessler, transferred from Mississippi State to Clemson this year.
