Joakim Soria, Ryan Madson in free-agent discussions with Reds: Report

The Cincinnati Reds have entered discussions with relief pitchers Ryan Madson and Joakim Soria, both of whom are coming off Tommy John surgery, Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported.

The Reds are looking to fill their closer position and move left-handed flamethrower Aroldis Chapman to the starting rotation.

As Rosenthal notes, Madson would be a full-season option, while Soria would be out at least a month. But Soria is a younger, more dynamic option, and his agent recently said that eight teams have expressed interest. Soria's agent also floated interest in setting up Mariano Rivera with the New York Yankees. Soria has averaged about 35 saves over the past four seasons, and he has a career 2.40 ERA and 1.04 WHIP.
