The NFL announced that the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Carolina Panthers will go on as scheduled, a day after linebacker Jovan Belcher committed suicide outside of Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday after killing his girlfriend.

The game is scheduled for 1 pm. Eastern on Sunday. The Chiefs (1-10) have lost eight games in a row.

“After discussions between the league office, Head Coach Romeo Crennel and Chiefs team captains, the Chiefs advised the NFL that it will play tomorrow’s game vs. the Carolina Panthers at its originally scheduled time,” an NFL release read. "The entire Chiefs family is deeply saddened by today's events, and our collective hearts are heavy with sympathy, thoughts and prayers for the families and friends affected by this unthinkable tragedy," Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt said in a statement.
