David Yost resigns as Missouri offensive coordinator

Missouri assistant head coach/offensive coordinator David Yost has resigned citing personal reasons, according to a university press release.

Yost, who has coached under head coach Gary Pinkel for 15 years, made the decision on his own.

Just five days ago, Pinkel said said he expected to retain his entire coaching staff despite the Tigers' disappointing 5-7 season that included a 2-6 debut in SEC play.

Under Yost and Pinkel, Missouri ranked 96th in total offense nationally, 89th in rushing offense and 75th in passing offense.

Pinkel recently denied considering stepping down, and brushed off rumors that his job was in danger.

First off, he said, no one is as disappointed with MU’s 5-7 record this season as he is. And in the same vein, no one is more excited about next season, a fact that became painfully obvious when Pinkel was asked if he gave any thought to stepping down after MU’s first losing season since 2004. “No, no, I love what I do,” said Pinkel, 60. “I don’t know where all that started. My daughter called me and said ‘I hear you’re retiring.’ I said ‘I am? Well, not me.’ ”
