Dan Haren, who was bought out by the Los Angeles Angels in November for $3.5 million, is heading to the nation's capital.

Haren reportedly signed a 1-year, $13 million contract with the Washington Nationals on Tuesday, according to a tweet from FOX baseball reporter Ken Rosenthal.

Haren, 32, was almost on his way to the Chicago Cubs in a trade that would've sent Carlos Marmol to the Angels.  He ultimately had his $15.5 million option declined by the Angels but will likely make more money now in the long run because of said buyout and this new deal with the Nats. The team will now have in its rotation Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzalez, Ross Detwiler, Jordan Zimmermann and Haren.

He has posted a 3.48 ERA and has pitched more than 200 innings in several seasons throughout his career, although injuries derailed him last year; because of back and hip problems, he was limited to 177 innings and an ERA of 4.33, the worst of his career. When healthy, however, Haren, a three-time All-Star, flies under the radar as one of the best pitchers in baseball.
