Report: Reds 'deep in talks' with Indians to acquire Shin-Soo Choo
The Cincinnati Reds are "deep in talks" with the Cleveland Indians on a trade that would send outfielder Shin-Soo Choo to Cincinnati for outfielder Drew Stubbs and shortstop Didi Gregorious, according to CBSSports.com's Danny Knobler.
The Indians have shopped the 30-year-old Choo, who batted .283 with 16 home runs and 67 RBI last season, throughout the offseason in hopes of landing a package of young players before he hits free agency next year.
The 28-year-old Stubbs, the eighth overall pick in the 2006 draft, is under team control for three more seasons after posting a .213 average and 30 stolen bases last season. He hit a career-high .255 with 22 home runs and 30 steals in 2010.
Gregorious, 22, is considered one of the Reds' top prospects. Acquiring him could allow the Indians to deal current shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, who has drawn strong trade interest.
The Reds plan to shift Choo, who has played primarily right field in Cleveland, to center field and bat him leadoff, according to the report, which also states that Cincinnati will likely receive an additional player. The left-handed hitter is known for his patience at the plate, as he owns a .381 career on-base percentage after posting a .373 OBP last season.
