The AT&T Cotton Bowl has emerged as a "prohibitive favorite" to host the first playoff national title game in college football on Jan. 12, 2015, ESPN.com reports.

The Rose and Sugar bowls will already host college football's first national semifinals on Jan 1, 2015. The new college football playoffs begin after the 2014 season and is under contract for 12 years. The Cotton Bowl is played at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas and can seat more than 100,000 spectators. The stadium hosted Super Bowl XLV after the 2010 season.

During the 12-year contract, the Rose and Sugar will host the semifinals four times. In the years they aren't hosting, the national semifinals would be moved from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, sources said.

The only exception would be if Jan. 1 falls on a Sunday and the Rose and Sugar would move to Dec. 31. The semifinals would then be moved to Dec. 30.

In total, six bowls will rotate for hosts of the national semifinals and those bowls have not been determined yet.
