Orioles extend manager Buck Showalter, GM Dan Duquette

The Orioles have announced contract extensions through the 2018 season for manager Buck Showalter and general manager/executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette.

Showalter reportedly met with Orioles owner Peter Angelos on Jan. 4 to finalize a new contract that will keep him with the club through the 2016 season.

Showalter managed the Orioles to a 93-69 record — the club’s first winning season since 1997 — and a postseason berth in 2012.

He finished second to the A’s Bob Melvin for AL Manager of the Year after guiding the Orioles to a 29-9 record in one-run games and victories in 16 consecutive extra-inning games.

His previous stints as a manager were with the Yankees (1992-1995), Diamondbacks (1998-2000) and Rangers (2003-2006).
