Travis Zajac signs 8-year, $46M deal with Devils

The New Jersey Devils have locked up forward Travis Zajac to a tune of $46 million over the next eight years.

Team manager Lou Lamoriello met with the media after the first period of a scrimmage Wednesday between the Devils and the club's American Hockey League affiliate, the Albany Devils to confirm the reports. The Devils PR department has its own Twitter page and also confirmed the reports. Pierre LeBrun of ESPN tweeted the terms of the deal.

Talks between Zajac, 27, and the Devils had reportedly been taking place before the lockout, with both sides reaching a deal today now that the regular season is set to begin Jan. 19 under a new collective bargaining agreement between the league and its players. The NHL will now feature a 99 day season with 13 games beginning on Saturday.

This would've been Zajac's final year with the team, as he was in his fourth year of a $15.55 million deal. Over the course of 423 regular season games, Zajac has recorded 91 goals and 164 assists for a total of 255 points.
