Report: Carolina Panthers promote Mike Shula to offensive coordinator

The Carolina Panthers have promoted quarterbacks coach Mike Shula to OC. He is replacing Rob Chudzinski, who left to become Cleveland's head coach. Shula is expected to continue coaching Cam Newton and the other quarterbacks.

The Panthers are also promoting two assistant coaches. Assistant receivers coach Ricky Proehl will replace fired receivers coach Fred Graves. Interim special teams coordinator Richard Rodgers, who has been in charge of special teams since November when Brian Murphy was fired, is now officially running the special teams.

Shula has 21 years of NFL coaching experience. His only other experience as an OC did not fare well, when he coached Tampa Bay from 1996 to 1999. The Buccaneers never finished higher than 22nd in total offense.
