Matt Ryan diagnosed with sprained AC joint in left shoulder

Late in Sunday night's loss against the 49ers, Matt Ryan sustained a hit that caused him obvious pain. He was diagnosed with a sprained AC joint in his left (non-throwing) shoulder. Ryan was scheduled to undergo an MRI prior to the diagnosis.

The injury didn't appear to affect Ryan in his final plays of the game. Given that an AC joint sprain is a relatively common injury, Ryan won't need surgery and will have enough time to recover in the off-season.

Ryan completed 30 of 42 passes for 396 yards and three touchdowns during Sunday night's NFC Championship loss.
