Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Da'Quan Bowers was arrested at LaGuardia Airport in New York City Monday morning after police discovered he was illegally carrying a handgun, reports NBCNewYork.com.

Bowers was arrested at an airport check-in counter after a loaded .40 caliber gun was found in his carry-on bag, spokesmen for the Port Authority and the Queens District Attorney's office said. Bowers was to board a US Airways flight to Raleigh, N.C.

Bowers was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and is scheduled to appear in court Monday night. A team spokesman said Bowers is declining comment as the organization investigates.
