Baltimore Orioles pitcher Luis Ayala is the latest player to forego the 2013 World Baseball Classic, according to a tweet from MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli.

Ayala, who pitched for Mexico in the 2006 and 2009 tournaments, is believed to have declined participation due to his heavy workload with the Orioles last summer, according to a report on CBSSports.com. Ayala threw 75 innings in 66 appearances in 2012, posting a 2.64 ERA. He also has experience in how participating in the WBC can go bad - in 2006 Ayala injured his elbow in the tournament, an injury that required Tommy John surgery that kept him out of action for the entire MLB season.
