Bart Scott cut by Jets, one of five players released from team

New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott was cut by the team on Tuesday, capping off a dumping frenzy in which four other players were released from the team the same day.

Scott is now an unrestricted free agent and could team up with former Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine in Buffalo. His agent had been in discussions with New York to restructure his contract, but talks reportedly fell through. He was due to make $6.9 million next season.

The team also cut three veterans on Tuesday, shedding the salaries for linebacker Calvin Pace, who was due to make $11.6 million, and a pair of backups, safety Eric Smith and tackle Jason Smith. Tight-end Josh Baker was also waived.

The Jets now give themselves more than $31 million in salary-cap relief heading into next season. The team has yet to make a decision on what it will do with star cornerback Darelle Revis, who could be traded if the Jets believe his salary demands cannot be met.
