Kevin Sumlin's new Texas A&M deal includes $1 million raise

Texas A&M football coach Kevin Sumlin has been financially rewarded for the Aggies' successful debut season in the SEC with a new contract featuring a raise of $1.1 million and extension through the 2017 season, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Sumlin's annual salary will increase to $3.1 million, according to his new contract acquired through an open records request. The previously announced extension did not reveal financial details.

Sumlin and his staff of assistant coaches received raises after the Aggies went 11-2 in a season and postseason that included winning the AT&T Cotton Bowl and quarterback Johnny Manziel winning the Heisman Trophy.

Interest in Sumlin from NFL teams may also have helped his cause during negotiations.
