Mike Trout's agent Craig Landis rips Angels for renewed $510,000 contract

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout gave the team near-MVP-level production for just $480,000 as a 20-year-old rookie last season. The Angels renewed Trout's contract for $510,000 on Saturday -- just $20,000 above the major-league minimum -- and the AL Rookie of the Year and MVP runner-up's agent, Craig Landis, is not happy about it.

Landis criticized the organization in comments to the Los Angeles Times' Mike DiGiovanna, saying that the contract was not fair and was not the result of a "negotiated compromise."

After three seasons in the minor leagues, Trout exploded onto the scene last season, enjoying a historically great rookie year that included a .326 average, 30 home runs and 49 stolen bases.

By comparison, Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun won the Rookie of the Year award at age 24 in 2007 and the club renewed his contract for more than $1 million during his second season. Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper, the NL Rookie of the Year in 2012 and a player often compared to Trout, will make $750,00 this season.
