Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke will have his sore right elbow checked out after being scratched from a scheduled start on Monday, reports ESPN.com.

Greinke felt discomfort Sunday when trying to play catch. Greinke has had elbow issues in the past and the team says that his current problem is not serious. They sent Greinke back to Los Angeles for an exam "out of an abundance of caution."

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Greinke already has had an MRI that came back "clean," according to the Los Angeles Times. Greinke signed a six-year, $147 million contract in December. He was 15-5 with a 3.48 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 200 strikeouts in 212 1/3 innings last season for the Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Angels.
