Report: Ed Reed hires agent, could precede move to sign with 49ers

Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed has hired a new agent in a move that could precede signing with the San Francisco 49ers, according to multiple reports.

Reed has hired the firm Athletes First to represent him, the NFL Network's Albert Breer reported on Twitter. Subsequently, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reported that the 49ers could end up signing Reed, citing a league source.

Reed's new agent, David Dunn, represents plenty of potential connections on where he might end up — the firm represents 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh, as well as New England Patriots stars Wes Welker and Aaron Hernandez.

Breer mentioned two more connections with the Colts and Ravens:

the 49ers gave up only a sixth-round pick in a trade with the Ravens
