Infamous 'Tuck Rule' could be scrapped by NFL competition committee

The NFL's competition committee will propose eliminating the now-infamous "Tuck Rule," the controversial rule that spring-boarded the New England Patriots to their first of multiple Super Bowl championships.

USA Today's Jarrett Bell reported that the competition committee will propose that NFL owners drop the rule, which was first added to the league's rulebook in 1999. The change to the rule would mean that a player would lose possession of the ball when he tries to bring it back to his body. If the quarterback loses control of the ball while trying to "tuck" it back into his body, it would be ruled a fumble.
