Yankees sign Brennan Boesch to one year deal

The New York Yankees have signed Brennan Boesch for $1.5 million on a major league deal, plus possible incentives, just two days after Boesch was released by the Tigers.

Last season, the 27-year-old batted .240/.286/.372 with 12 homers in 503 plate appearances and struck out 104 times. Boesch has never played first base professionally, but he gives the Yankees the opportunity to put Juan Rivera at first.

With third basemen Alex Rodriguez likely out for most of the season and first basemen Mark Teixeira out four to six weeks, the Yankees are desperate for corner infield help. Adding Boesch gives the Yankees the option of playing Rivera at first to help fill the infield.
