The Chicago White Sox selected left-hander Chris Sale as their Opening Day starter, manager Robin Ventura announced Saturday.
The White Sox will open the 2013 season at home against the Kansas City Royals on April 1.
Ventura made the announcement after the team's 11-5 spring training victory over the Oakland A's in which Sale went five-plus innings, giving up five runs on seven hits. He struck out three and walked two.
Sale, 23, will start his fourth season with the team. He went 17-8 with a 3.05 ERA, and 192 strikeouts in 192 innings in 30 appearances last season. He has a career record of 21-11.
