Mariners expected to part ways with Jon Garland

Seattle Mariners RHP Jon Garland will likely opt out of his contract, according to multiple reports. General Manager Jack Zduriencik said there wasn't room for the veteran right-hander in the rotation and a roster spot could not be tendered to the 33-year-old. Garland has an opt-out clause in his contract after signing with the club on a minor-league deal in February.

Garland pitched well for the Mariners this spring, posting a 2.25 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 12 innings. Prior to the Spring Training assignment with the Mariners, Garland last pitched in the big leagues in 2011 with the Dodgers before having season-ending shoulder surgery.

Garland has 132 wins and a 4.32 ERA over 12 seasons. The Rockies have shown interest that is considered to be "lukewarm" in Garland.
