George Mason to join Atlantic-10 conference, according to report

George Mason University is set to announce Monday it will join the Atlantic-10 Conference, CBS Sports' Jeff Goodman reported. George Mason's move will help ease the conference's blow of losing both Xavier and Butler to the new Big East next season.

The Patriots are current members of the Colonial Athletic Association, of which the school was a founding member in 1985.

The program's shining moment came in 2006, when its basketball team reached the Final Four of the NCAA tournament. The Patriots also made a trip to the NCAA tournament's third round last season, but they finished just fifth in the CAA standings this season. They are currently playing in the College Basketball Invitational.
