Lakers' Metta World Peace off crutches a week after surgery

Los Angeles Lakers forward Metta World Peace said Wednesday he is already off crutches after having surgery last week to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee.
World Peace was injured in the first half of the Lakers' 109-103 loss to the Golden State Warriors on March 25. The diagnosis from team doctors said World Peace would be out for six weeks. The Lakers have gone 3-1 in his absence as of games played through April 3.
The Lakers are 39-36 with seven games remaining as they battle the Utah Jazz and Dallas Mavericks for the Western Conference's final playoff spot. The earliest World Peace could return is if the Lakers make the playoffs and advance to the second round.
"It's going really well," World Peace said, according to ESPN.com. "I was on the crutches for a couple days but it just gets better. Like, every half of day, it improves. I'm very encouraged." "When they said six weeks, I was like, 'Oh my goodness,' but knowing me, I would play with one leg if I had to," World Peace said.
