Report: David Akers agrees to terms with Lions

The Detroit Lions and veteran kicker David Akers have agreed to terms on a contract, according to Detroit Free Press reporter Dave Birkett. The move comes just a day after kicker Jason Hanson retired after 21 seasons with the Lions. Hanson was the longest-tenured player in the NFL prior to his retirement.

Akers spent the last two seasons serving as the kicker for the San Francisco 49ers and has played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins over his 14-year career. The six-time Pro Bowl kicker was released by the 49ers in March.

Akers made 29 out of 42 field-goal attempts last season, setting a career-low in field goal percentage with 69 percent of his kicks made.
