Report: NCAA will lower basket so Kevin Ware can cut down net if Louisville wins

Though injured Louisville guard Kevin Ware cannot climb a ladder, he will be able to cut down the nets if Louisville wins the national championship on Monday night.

If the Cardinals prevail over Michigan, the NCAA plans to lower the baskets so that Ware -- who suffered a compound fracture in his right leg eight days ago -- can participate in the annual rite, according to USA Today's Rachel George.

"We're prepared for whatever Louisville would like to do," David Worlock, the NCAA's associate director for championships and alliances and the media coordinator for the Division I championship, told USA Today.

Ware attended high school in Rockdale County, Ga., about 20 miles outside of Atlanta, where the game is being played.

The rest of Ware's teammates will climb a special ladder made for the Final Four's 75th anniversary if they win.

The rest of his teammates will have a chance to cut the nets down on a commemorative ladder made by the NCAA's partner, Werner. One side of the ladders includes an engraved plate for each national championship team. The winning team will have a plate added for their run and receive the ladder. Another will be sent to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

The 9-foot ladder is made to accommodate net cutting. The company doesn't make any others that height.
