Magic Johnson's son 'reveling' in experience of coming out, talks about being gay
Earvin Johnson III, known as E.J., talked about his surprise at the public interest in his sexual orientation in an interview on the YouTube show "Gwissues." TMZ recently revealed that Johnson was gay, although he had already come out to his family several years ago.
He said he feels like he's coming out a second time and he's "reveling" in the experience. From an AP report:
"I always wanted to come into the spotlight," he said. "I always had dreams and plans of doing my own thing and creating my own image, so it came a little sooner than I thought it would but this is still something I knew I would be going through and would have to experience."
Johnson, 20, is a junior at New York University where he studies event management and design. He first came out to his mother when he was 13 or 14 and says his family has been extremely supportive. His father, NBA great Magic Johnson, learned the news about a year later.
