New York Knicks forward Rasheed Wallace has retired from basketball, the team announced Wednesday.

Wallace returned from a two-season retirement to join the Knicks this year but battled injuries. He had surgery on an injured foot and tried to return for the playoffs. But now he won't be joining the team for the postseason and will instead call it a career.

The 38-year-old Wallace ended up playing in only 21 games with the team. He averaged 7 points and 4 rebounds in 14.1 minutes per game.

Knicks coach Mike Woodson said in a statement that, "Rasheed has given this team everything he had."

Wallace was a four-time All-Star. He played for six teams in his 16-year career. In 2004, the Pistons acquired Wallace near the trade deadline, and he helped spark them to an upset of the Lakers in the NBA Finals.
