Lakers Steve Nash practices Friday, hopes to play Sunday against Spurs

Lakers' guard Steve Nash practiced with the team on Friday and is "very optimistic" about playing in the opening round of the playoffs against the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday. The 39-year-old point guard has missed 32 regular season games this year with an assortment of injuries and a bothersome hamstring has caused Nash to miss all eight of the Lakers games in April.

Nash had two epidural shots in his lower back on Tuesday to help alleviate some of the pain he was feeling in his hamstring. Nash told Yahoo! Sports reporter Marc J. Spears that if the epidural shots worked, he could have a chance to play against the Spurs on Sunday.

Nash was running half-court sets with the Lakers during practice Friday and teammate Steve Black expected Nash to start alongside him on Sunday. Mike D'Antoni said that Nash will be a game-time decision against the Spurs.
