Byron Scott on firing from Cavaliers: 'I don't think I got a fair shake'

Although he won just 64 games over his three seasons as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers before being fired on Thursday, Byron Scott told The Cleveland Plain-Dealer that he believes he did not get a "fair shake."

When Scott took the position before the 2010-11 season, most expected the coach to have LeBron James at his disposal.

But James made his infamous decision to sign with the Miami Heat six days after Scott joined the Cavs. That left Scott with a team devoid of talent and experience.

When James left for Miami, Scott was left with a major rebuilding job that was expected to take three to five seasons, and he was assured he'd have the time to complete it.

But his tenure was marred by injuries to key players, including Anderson Varejao, who never played more than 31 games in any of Scott's three seasons, and Kyrie Irving. Without Varejao as their anchor, the Cavs struggled defensively all season and were last in the league as far as opponent field-goal percentage, a key factor is Scott's dismissal.
