The New York Yankees laundry list of injuries got a bit longer during their game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. Catcher Francisco Cervelli exited the game with an apparent hand injury which, according to CBS reporter Jon Heyman, turns out to be a broken hand. He could miss up to six weeks.
The Yankees' Triple-A team took starting catcher Austin Romine out of the game after Cervelli was injured. Cervelli was replaced in the game by Chris Stewart.
Starting pitcher Ivan Nova also exited Friday night with pain in his right elbow and is set to have an MRI. Nova, after allowing a single in the third inning, exited the game after a brief meeting with Joe Girardi and trainer Steve Donohue. Nova was replaced by David Phelps.
If Cervelli and Nova need to go on the disabled list, they would join Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Mark Teixiera, Curtis Granderson and Michael Pineda. Kevin Youkilis has also missed time this week with a bothersome back but has yet to go on the disabled list.
