The Dallas Stars are set to fire general manager Joe Nieuwendyk and hire Detroit Red Wings assistant general manager Jim Nill on Monday, reports TSN.

Dallas has missed the playoffs each of the last five seasons and finished this season with 22-24-5 record. Detroit beat Dallas 3-0 in the season finale, clinching a playoff berth for the Red Wings for the 22nd straight season.

Nieuwendyk was hired as the team's GM in 2009. The Stars have not made a decision about coach Glen Gulutzan, as his contract expires after this season. Nill has been with with the Red Wings front office for 19 years and spent 15 of those years as the team's assistant GM. He was offered the Montreal Canadians general manager job last year, but turned it down.
