Report: Big Ten schools to receive $25.7 million this year

Schools in the Big Ten Conference are expected to receive a $25.7 million payout from the conference this year, including $7.6 million from the Big Ten television Network, reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Those figures came from documents obtained from the University of Illinois. Illinois reaped record benefits last year, collecting $24.6 million, including a record $8.1 million from the Big Ten Network.

The Southeastern Conference recently announced a deal with ESPN to create a national network that could mean big payouts worth as much as $30 million to each institution in the 14-team conference.

Last year Illinois received $24.6 million, including a record $8.1 million from BTN. Annual figures are fairly consistent throughout the league, which has a balanced revenue sharing system.

This year schools in the Big Ten are expected to receive $19 million in television revenue with $10.9 million coming from ESPN/ABC, $7.6 million from the BTN and the remainder from CBS.
