Chicago Bears install helmet cameras to study quarterback play at rookie camp

The Chicago Bears are trying out a new kind of film study during their rookie minicamps.

The team's video department mounted a small camera on the left side of second-year quarterback Matt Blanchard's helmet on Friday, according to the Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs.

The Bears are experimenting with the technique in hopes of finding a way to better understand how their quarterbacks see plays develop.

Blanchard, an undrafted 2012 free agent from Wisconsin-Whitewater who spent last season on the practice squad, is one of just three quarterbacks on Chicago's roster, as veteran Luke McCown is expected to serve as Jay Cutler's primary backup.

The World League of American Football used similar cameras as part of its game broadcasts in the 1990s, according to ProFootballTalk, while the University of Kentucky used them last season.
