Phillies starting pitcher Roy Halladay underwent successful arthroscopic shoulder surgery and he is expected to return this season, reports CBS sports.

No additional damage was found to the shoulder, and Halladay won't require more extensive surgery, a "best-case" scenario, according to people close to him. He is expected to begin throwing in six to eight weeks. Halladay was 2-4 with an 8.65 ERA prior to the surgery.

The Phillies signed free agent Carlos Zambrano to a minor league deal, though the team views it as more of a "flyer." John Lannan is still nursing an injured knee, and the Phillies will need a fifth starter in a week and a half.
