St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jaime Garcia will have season-ending surgery on his injured throwing shoulder, reports CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman.
Heyman reports that Dr. James Andrews confirmed that Garcia has a "30 to 40" percent tear in his labrum.
Garcia was 5-2 with a 3.58 ERA this season. He had gone on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with what was called a shoulder strain.
It was the fourth trip to the DL for Garcia in his four-year career. The lefty won 13 games in both 2010 and 2011. But last year, he sprained his shoulder and missed two months. He finished 7-7 with a 3.92 ERA.
