The San Francisco Bay area got some good news on Tuesday, learning that the city would host the 50th Super Bowl in 2016, but the 49ers got some bad news the same day, finding out wide receiver Michael Crabtree suffered a possible torn Achilles tendon during organized team activities.

The latest, according to a report Wednesday afternoon from Mike Garafolo of USA Today, is that Crabtree will undergo what might end up being season-ending surgery to correct the tendon. The report cites an anonymous source because the 49ers have to comment on the situation, although Adam Schefter of ESPN tweeted that Crabtree's injury is indeed a torn Achilles. According to Schefter, Crabtree will undergo additional tests to confirm the extent of the injury and then meet with the team to decide how to move forward.

Crabtree, 25, was drafted 10th overall in 2009 and made last season the best of his young career, recording career highs in receptions (85), yards (1,105) and touchdowns (nine).
